Excellent Snowboarding Conditions across the European Alps

There’s been about two metres of snow during the last seven days. It has been so prolonged that skiing lifts were shut down, the local train was stopped at Chamonix train station and not heading onwards to Argentiere. Several roads have been shut past our chalet holiday accommodation and weather announcements published.

Contrast this to a couple of winters ago, when we experienced the incredibly mild January weather conditions, mud showing on the ski slopes, and reports that climate change meant the death of the ski industry in the French Alps. Indeed the report from 2005 admonished that global warming would make skiing holidays far too dear for many snowboarders, with one 3rd of ski resorts closing with the receding of alpine glaciers. Glaciologists assert that it’s impossible to attribute these annual differences in the weather patterns to the consequences of global warming.

We could be experiencing the deepest downturn in almost 25 years, and the Sterling has headed to new lows compared to the Euro, however the snowboarding is fantastic, and the recent bookings highlight that skiers are eager to enjoy the fantastic skiing conditions. This season is definitely the best in ten winter seasons, and many people are announcing that it’s the nicest skiing conditions in at least 10 winters.

Even so recollect that this amount of snow means significant risks of avalanche.
