What Is a Chenille Letter
This letter is usually embroidered on a specially crafted jacket called the letterman jacket. Such letters were earlier also embroidered on a cardigan or pullover sweater. Several media like felt insignia, modelled pins, or bars are added to make the design more ornamental. Usually, students are awarded only one letter but sometimes even multiple distinctions are awarded to exceptional students.
This practice of awarding varsity letters to the qualifying high school or college athletes, who have achieved a specific level of participation in US Sports on a varsity athletic team, or in most school-sponsored groups, gave birth to the term letterman. As this practice involved awarding the participants a cloth letter, which is the school’s initial in the form of a Chenile letter, to be placed on a “letter sweater”.
Currently the fashion for schools has not changed for the past 30 years. Letterman jackets are still in style in most areas just as they were in the past. Will the letterman jacket stand the test of time? Will Gordon International stay true to their world and redesign the traditional graduation cap and gown??
